Rick Silverman '81

At Dartmouth, Rick majored in German modified with Biology and went on to Medical School at Penn State followed by training in Plastic Surgery at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, where he practiced until 2000 when he moved his practice to Boston. He remains on the UMass Plastic Surgery faculty, teaching medical students and residents. He leads a surgical team to Ecuador each year to provide cleft lip and palate and other surgical care to underserved communities. His practice has focused on diseases of the breast in both men and women as well as body contouring with a particular interest in fitness-oriented individuals and bodybuilders. While maintaining that busy practice, he’s competed himself in bodybuilding, achieving professional status in two international bodybuilding federations where he remains an active competitor.
At Dartmouth, he sang in the Dartmouth Aires and continues to join the group for reunions—and he willingly steps forward to sing the correct words of the Alma Mater at various alumni events. Volunteering for Dartmouth began as a class agent then took a turn towards greater involvement when he chaired his 15th reunion and served as Class President thereafter. This led to a stint on the Alumni Council, serving as president during a very turbulent time in alumni governance, an experience that deepened his commitment to the College. He has since co-chaired multiple reunions including the 25th, serves as one of his class Newsletter Editors, Zoom Czar, iModules hack, and generally suffers from an inability to say “No” to Dartmouth!
