Robert D. Charles '87

Biography: 

Active at Dartmouth since fall 1983, Bob has fervently served the College, the great Class of 1987, Alumni Council, and alumni clubs of Washington, DC, New York, Boston, Dallas, London, and Detroit. Past volunteer roles include serving on the Alumni Council’s Nominating and Trustee Search Committee, chair of the Honorary Degrees Committee, Academic Affairs Committee, Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity & Inclusion. Bob also participated on the track & field and football teams, completed the Granada, Spain LSA Program, and was appointed LSA apprentice teacher twice. An active admissions interviewer, mentor, and Dartmouth College Fund volunteer, Bob prides himself on maintaining a healthy read on the pulse of Dartmouth’s past, present, and future perspectives.

After graduating, Bob worked for JP Morgan Chase, earned an MBA from Harvard University, and held executive positions with Exxon, Bain, CSC Index, Ford Motor Credit, as well as multiple early-stage entities. He serves as managing partner of North Star Advisors, a boutique direct-investment consultancy, as well as director of several private companies and trustee of numerous non-profits. A Washington, DC native, Bob resides in West Bloomfield, MI, with his wife of 25 years, Christine, and two children, Rachel and Bobby.
